8 Ideas for Making New Year’s Resolutions in 2008
December 27th 2007 04:37
Having trouble making those New Year’s resolutions, or wanting to make them more meaningful or tangible in 2008?
Take a look at each area of your life and write down one goal in each category for the coming year. Writing down goals gives you a better chance of sticking to them, and you’ll be setting yourself up nicely for the brand new year!
1. Personal Development: Self-empowerment, education, learning a new skill, or growing in some area of your life is a great resolution to start the new year. The best investment is always in you.
2. Career: Decide to head off in the direction of your dreams this year, or take the pledge to mix work with pleasure. Another resolution could be to strive for honesty and integrity in everything you do,
3. Family: A resolution could be to smooth over a rough relationship, or to build more intimate relationships with people who are the building blocks of our lives.
4. Relationships: Build more sustaining friendships, spend more quality time with your mate… there’s often improvements to be made in our relationships, and New Year is a great time to get some perspective on ones that need a little more care.
5. Finances: Being more responsible with money, aiming for financial freedom, paying off the credit card… If you determine right at the beginning of the year to get your finances in order, you’ll have a solid plan to stick to no matter what happens.
6. Rest and Relaxation: How would you like to take time out this year? It’s not always on our resolution list, but rest and relaxation is a vital part of a quality life. Put a few of those dream therapies on your list: visit a day spa, have at least 1 day off every week from work and chores; do a meditation or yoga course; swim in the ocean every weekend. Let your mind wander to the places and things you’d love to do this year, and write a few down.
7. Health: To strive for fantastic physical health is a great start to the year. When we are fit and healthy we feel strong and capable. Decide right now to get that aching back looked at; to join the gym; to walk to work; to eat more fresh food; to join a laughter class… There are so many community groups and health centres offering an array of diet and exercise programs now, it’s hard to miss on this one.
8. Community: Have you always wanted to do volunteer work, or give some kind of service to your community? Make 2008 the year to do it, by calling your local council or searching for charities that interest you on the internet. It doesn’t take much time or effort, and you can make a real difference in someone’s life.
