7 Amazing Facts About You, The Human
December 18th 2007 10:34
We seem to be a pattern repeating itself over and over again, and renewing itself over and over. A bit like the universe really, and we are also the universe, made of the same stuff...
1. Your skin replaces itself every two weeks as new skin cells move up from below the surface. Your skeleton is remade anew every 3 months. Your whole body is continually renewing itself, so every seven years you are an entirely new person!
2. Your feet replicate your body. Your brain is in your big toe (as your friends have always said), your neck and spine stretch from the outside of your big toe right down to the lower spine at you heel. And in the squishy bits of your foot are your organs and intestines. That’s why reflexology and foot massage work so well, and also why we can rub garlic on our feet and smell it on our breath a few minutes later (good if you need to take disgusting medicine – you can just rub it on your feet and let your body absorb it that way.)
3. Your full arm span width is also your height.
4. Tear ducts don’t actually create tears. Tears come from the outer eye and wash across the eye, keeping it moist. The tear ducts then drain the tears. Aaahhh.
5. You can tell someone’s intelligence just by checking out his or her body parts. A study at the University of Louisville revealed that the most intelligent people on earth have blue eyes in common, while us darker eyed souls are better at physical activities. Another study at the University of Western Ontario claimed that the bigger someone’s head, the more intelligent they were. Studies also show that you are a smart cookie if you have: large eyes, long index fingers, a broad forehead, large earlobes, and big breasts. Maybe bigger is better after all!
6. Every part of your body can renew and heal itself, by itself, (apart from your teeth.)
7. Your eyes also replicate your body. Your eyes are an extension of your brain and central nervous system, and the iris is linked to these by thousands of tiny nerve endings. That’s why we can see disease and disfunction in the body through our eyes (called Iridology).
